I downloaded Vienna yesterday and both my team and I really like the look of it and we are considering implementing it and then transferring our current excel / word based tests into it, as even though this is a peer to peer solution rather than client server, it'll be a marked improvement on how we currently do things. Our organisation is quite strapped for cash (at the moment - as I'm sure most firms are) so we can't afford the usual standard test management tools. Anyone else running a successful Vienna peer to peer project?

I guess my question is if we do go ahead and transfer all our test cases into Vienna what garauntee do you (NMQA?) have that you'll still be around if and when we are potentially ready to splash some cash on your client server version? And if something does happen to you how easy is it to export the test cases etc in to a format that can be imported into another Test Management tool?

A very impressive FREE tool by the way. Great work and thank you. We need something to improve our current process!

Hi TesterMan,

Thanks for your comments.  We are thrilled you've downloaded Vienna and hope you have as much success with it as we've enjoyed with our customers.

There are quite a few small teams out there that have come up with some very innovative working solutions for V2 peer to peer.  There is no 'export to excel' in this version but the backend database is SQLServer so you can export directly from there to other microsoft applications such as excel.  Our Enterprise version of Vienna has an 'export to excel', 'export to word' and 'export to CSV' funciton and so will future versions of Vienna Desktop.  NMQA have been in the software testing business for 10 years now, longer then most other UK testing specialist companies, and we don't envisage going anywhere for a long time yet. :-)  It has been in our plans to create a tool, and a free comminity such as this, for a very long time now and we are delighted its finally happened.

Thanks,

NMQA_FreeTM

Hi Michelle,

We are working very hard on the Test Case Import&Export function as we speak. Almost there. We should have a build with this functionality ready for Monday 3rd May 2010 so not much longer to wait. We will announce on our website when this version is ready.

Kind regards,
NMQA Support
