Until today, I did not know that, it is possible to easily import defects from bug tracker.

You just have to

  1. In bug tracker set filtering on what to export. Also, if possible, select columns with data which You want to import to Vienna.
  2. Export list to excel file
  3. Export Vienna defects to excel.
  4. In file exported from bug tracker, change adequate column headers to the same names as in file exported from vienna.
  5. Remove redundant lines/records from bug tracker file, fill missing data, then save.
  6. Do normal excel import in Vienna - select previously edited file.
  7. Select options, like in normal importing.
  8. voilà!

I hope ut would be useful :)

Dear Chris,

Thank you for adding the Import How To, to add to it further, you can also import without even having any column names or column names that do not relate to any of the fields in Vienna. You can then manually map the fields by right clicking on the empty column next to each vienna field which will display a popup menu with all the fields from excel file.

The advantage of having same column names in excel file before importing to Vienna is that Vienna will automatically map the columns from Excel to Vienna fields.

You can remove the redundant rows from the imported excel file in Vienna itself before hitting the final Import button, and you can also edit details on the fly.

Kind Regards,
