Vienna - Test Management™ Desktop and Client/Server version v2.1.106.94 released - Tuesday, April 26, 2011

The highlights of this release are summarised below:

  • Bulk Update
    • Bulk update functionality has been introduced in the Requirements, Test Cases and Defects modules
    • The User can select multiple records and change the values of all records rapidly. These changes are reflected in the Change History
  • In-Module Coverage Graphs
    • 49 new Coverage Graphs have been introduced in the following modules:
      • Requirements (19 new Graphs)
      • Test Cases (9 new Graphs)
      • Test Runs (2 new Graphs)
      • Defects (19 new Graphs)
    • Any changes to the data within the grid view will automatically update the graphs (switch folders, search, apply filter and inline editing)
    • User can now copy both the in-module and reporting graphs to the clipboard

  • In-Module Status Bar
    • Each Module has a new Status bar which shows useful information including:
      • Currently selected Folder
      • Total number of records in the list
      • Number of records selected by the user
      • Quick links to display number of records assigned to field values
      • Options to display data in three different views:
        • List (displays all Records for specified criteria)
        • Graph (displays selected Graph for specified criteria)
        • Hybrid (displays combination of Records and Graph)
  • Record Change History
    • Record change history implementation has now been fully completed for in-line editing as well as the Record edit windows
  • Folder Control Enhancement
    • All folders now display a 2-part counter in the format (X/Y), where:
      • X is s the number of records within the selected folder
      • Y is the number of records within the selected folder plus all its sub folders
  • Reference Field Enhancement
    • When copying and pasting records, a new unique reference will be automatically generated
    • When importing records from an Excel document, if “use default” option is selected, a new unique Reference will be generated for each record
  • Further Enhancements
    • Test Case Steps can now be re-ordered via the record edit window
    • “Company” column added in User Selection window
    • Sorting allowed on “Name” and “Company” within the User Selection window
    • Project Components now included as part of the Project Import/Export
    • “Modified On” date filter added
    • Noticeable performance improvement in all modules
    • New ‘Start Again’ and ‘Continue’ options added to the Test Run window
    • Improvement to Test Runner counters
    • Many other enhancements and defect fixes

Vienna - Test Management™ Desktop and Client/Server version v2.1.78.58 released - Friday, February 04, 2011

The highlights of v2.1.78.58 are summarised below:

  • Components Module
    • The Components Module can be used to break your project down into small units
    • This is an open module where you decide how best to use it for your project.  For example, you may wish to use this module to track your Release/Version numbers, or Sprints (if following an Agile methodology), or Sub Systems/ Functional Areas etc.
    • Traceability: For each component, a user is shown a list of all the entities assigned using a tabbed layout.
    • Requirement, Test Case and Defect records all now display the Component they belong to
    • Following default permissions are available:
      • Management Team – Create / Modify / Delete Components
      • Tester / Developer – View / Modify (if owner)
      • Viewer – Read only view
  • Customisation
    • Ability to modify existing drop down list values and add further values to those lists
    • Ability to apply colouring to each drop down item for easier user detection
    • Introduction of a Defect Status Classification to specify whether a defect status is valid (i.e. open, assigned etc.) or not valid (i.e. closed, not a bug etc.)
    • Import/Export and Word Report now supports the Component column within the Requirements, Test Cases and Defects module
    • Automatic assignment of a Component to a defect based on associated test case when a defect is raised through the Test Runner
  • Layout Improvements
    • Layout has been improved in all the data grids to further improve the readability of the entities
    • Grid lines have been removed
    • Title/Name text is now shown in bold
    • Colouring introduced in the data grids as part of Customisation
  • Unlock Records
    • A Vienna administrator now has the capability to unlock records from within the data grid using a right click context menu.
  • Further Enhancements
    • Windows Operating System copy and paste functionality has been introduced, automatically appending “copy (x)” text to the title / name fields
    • Ability to create new environments from within the Test Run creation window
    • Ability to automatically save a Test Case Step when Test Case details are being saved
    • Ability to re-sequence Test Case Steps from within the edit window
    • Automatic unique reference when copying entities such as Requirements, Test Cases and Defects
    • Test Runner progress bar updated to display progress as 1/X instead of 0/X

Vienna - Test Management™ Desktop and Client/Server version v2.1.61.37 released - Friday, November 19, 2010
The highlights of v2.1.61.37 are summarised below:
  • User Permission Settings
    • The following User Groups are created by default and further custom User Groups can be created by an Administrator:
      • Administrator: Access to Administration module. The only user group with the ability to create Projects and Environments
      • Project Manager: Able to manage Requirements & Defects, and control the association of Users & Environments with a project
      • Development Manager: Able to manage Defects.
      • Test Manager: Has most unrestricted access to Vienna
      • Developer: Restricted access to all modules except Defects
      • Tester: Access to all modules with some restrictions in each
      • Viewer: Read only access to all modules
      • Desktop User Group: Full access to Vienna. Group restricted to the Free Desktop edition
    • Permissions can be applied to a Module, individual field or drop down list (e.g. a Developer cannot close a defect).
    • Integration with Directory Services using LDAP Protocol. The following Authentication providers are now available when setting up User Permissions:
      • Windows Authentication: Automatic authentication using windows account. User will not be prompted to enter their login credentials.
      • LDAP Authentication: Authenticates a user through directory services implemented in Internet Protocol (IP) networks.
      • Built-In: Authenticates user through Vienna’s secure built-in authentication. User information is stored securely in the Vienna Database.
    • On first installation a user will be prompted to setup permissions which is a one-time wizard for the Desktop Edition. Using client/server edition, an administrator can change the authentication providers if required at any point.
  • Administration Module (Client/Server only): The Administration module allows an administrator to perform the following actions:
    • Delete Projects
    • Modify Permissions on existing projects
    • Add/Remove users from projects
    • Add/Remove environments from projects
    • Add Custom User Groups and view permissions on the existing User Groups
    • Delete Custom User Groups
    • Change authentication provider
    • Import Users from Directory Services
  • Record Filter: Record filtering has been implemented in the following modules:
    • Requirements
    • Test Cases
    • Test Runs
    • Defects
    • Filter can be applied to most available fields
  • Advanced Search: Advanced search is now available from Vienna’s Tool Bar. The search will automatically use wildcards so no need to enter a wildcard character i.e. ‘*’. Existing Search functionality is still available using the Edit > Find menu or CTRL+F shortcut key.
  • Performance Improvement: Up to 50% performance improvement in all Modules.
  • Record Count: A Row counter has been added to most of the tab controls which displays number of comments, number of steps in a Test Case, number of records in the change history etc.
  • Additional Tab: Associated Test Cases in a Test Run are now displayed on a separate tab.
  • Test Runner Enhancements: The following enhancements have been made to the Test Runner
    • The progress % is now displayed on the Progress bar
    • Test Case Reference is now displayed on the Title bar
    • Automatic focus of the Test Runner on mouse over

Vienna - Test Management™ Desktop and Client/Server version v2.1.49.27 released - Friday, July 23, 2010
The highlights of v2.1.49.27 are summarised below:
  • A Requirements to Test Cases to Defects traceability view has been implemented along with links to navigate between the entities.
  • Vienna is now able to connect to a default instance of SQL Server.
  • An option is now available within the Test Run edit window to tell the Test Runner to either continue further steps when a defect is raised or just mark the Test Case as "bugs" and ignore further steps. NB: When a step is marked as "failed", as before the user cannot continue executing further steps.
  • A read only record Change History has been introduced in all modules.
  • The Comments field has been enhanced and the Notes field removed. This allows a user to create multiple comments which has a timestamp as well as the user (machine name and logged in user's name) who created it.
  • The layout has been changed to include tabbing on the list view as well as on the edit window to better organise your data.
  • Test Case re-ordering has been implemented when Test Cases are associated to a Test Run. These Test Cases will now run in the order set by the user.
  • Enhanced performance within the list views for all modules and the Test Runner.
  • Database connection settings are now stored securely (encrypted).
  • Able to re-run an existing Test Run once all the Test Cases have been executed.
  • When a defect is raised through a Test Runner, the actual results field is also captured and included within the defect description field. This way, the user can check the "automatic raise defect" option and not worry about completing the defect details manually.
  • Test Runner keyboard shortcut status is now retained.
  • Within the Test Run edit window, the user can now select multiple associated Test Cases and remove them on a single click.
  • Minor enhancements in the Word report generation
  • When a Test Run is copied, the duration field is now reset to 0 instead of being copied from the original.
  • When creating a Test Case inline, Vienna will now automatically assign the last user that was assigned to a Test Case within a particular folder.
  • The Test Case title field is now mandatory when using inline editing.
  • Invalid URL format issue has been fixed when a url similar to "http://servername:8080/test/" is used.

NB: There are many database updates in this release. Vienna will automatically update the database and move all previously entered Notes into the Comments field. It will also automatically move your previous Defect History to the newly implemented Change History.

 
Vienna - Test Management™ v2.1.43.7 - Released - Tuesday, June 01, 2010
Vienna v2.1.43.7 released with the following key features:
  • Re-Running a Test Run: The user can now re-run an existing Test Run without having to copy it first
  • Test Run History: A DataGrid has been added to the Test Run window to detail the run history. Each record in the grid can be opened to display more details such as associated test cases and as granular as the result of individual test steps
  • Copying a Test Run:  The history is no longer copied when a user copies and pastes a Test Run. It is now treated as a brand new test run. The duration field is also reset to 0
  • Test Run "Shortcut Mode" checkbox:  State now retained rather than re-set each time
  • Environment Password Encryption and Display: The Server application now provides for Environment Security Preferences with options to Hide Password, Include password in Microsoft Word report, Include password in exported files (both Vienna's own file format and Microsoft Excel)
  • Environment Reporting:  Microsoft Word report now displays the Environment IP Address / Credentials
  • Automatic Defect Capture: The ‘Actual Results’ field is now captured in the defect description

Vienna Server users please note:  In order to address some of the above requirements new database tables were added and some changes were made to the Server application. Therefore all those that have purchased Vienna Server or are evaluating a trial copy, you will need to download and install the server application first before downloading and installing the client software. The server application will automatically create the database tables required by this new version. Please contact NMQA if you are a Vienna Server customer.
 
 
Vienna - Test Management™ v2.1.41.1 - Released - Wednesday, May 19, 2010
Thank you everyone for the great support, we have had over 500 downloads of Vienna v2.1.35.0 since its release on 2nd May 2010. The numbers are increasing every day and we are getting some great feedback on the product.

We have now released Vienna v2.1.41.1 with the following key features:
  • Record Locking has been introduced in all the modules when editing inline or using the edit window. Multiple users can now work on the same record without having to worry about other users overwriting it.
  • Keyboard shortcuts have been implemented in the test runner to perform almost all the operations without having to use the mouse. The keyboard shortcut key guide is contained within the test runner window.
  • Users can now raise ad-hoc defects from within the test runner at any time during test execution. All the test runner data, including screenshots, is automatically captured.
  • Automatic Unique Reference on new records has been introduced in the Requirements and Test Cases module, which was previously only available in the Defects module.
  • Users can now Activate Vienna over a proxy connection. User can either specify proxy server details or load settings from Internet Explorer.
  • Performance has been improved in the Test Case and Test Run module and some minor bug fixes have been applied, including hiding the test runner when capturing a screenshot.
