Test Management

Test Management

Test Management relates to managing the testing function from both the operational and business commercial perspectives. The role of the Test Manager has both a tactical and strategic dimension to it. On one hand they manage a function just like any other. They consider the tasks that need to be performed, which team member will deliver them, how progress will be tracked, issues resolved and lessons learned.

On the other hand Test Management involves that strategic aspects of planning how the testing function will develop, what new skills and technologies will be needed, how to manage assets and integrate with the business at large.

NMQA’s Test Managers are experienced in both Traditional and Agile development environments and are capable of selecting the right approaches, tools and techniques to maximise the return from testing and utilisation of the testing team.

Execution of Test Management starts with consideration of the testing needs the project has. The NMQA Test Manager can ensure the types of testing and the test approaches chosen are appropriately aligned with the needs of your project. NMQA’s descriptive Testing Taxonomy ensures a thorough and integrated design of the testing methodology.

Once it’s clear what’s to be done they can they use our proven ‘Test Project Management’ approaches to define the delivery schedule, information that will be published and captured and how it will be communicated. The approaches that can be called on supports the wider Project Management practices your organisation may use and are equally applicable to traditional or Agile projects. The approaches allow the Project Manager to delegate this test planning work to its true owner while still maintaining control over the full project schedule.

The Test Manager can then assess staff and skills needs to deliver the testing identified and when the testing staff should be engaged on the project. Our experienced staff can either identify the right training for the team or deliver it themselves.

When testing commences the Test Manager will ensure effective reporting that conveys the progress of test work and the status of test activities within the project. This information can include metrics, statistics and summaries and take the form of graphs, charts and written reports. Using this reporting we can gauge the products test state and indicative level of quality, useful for product release decisions and to help ensure the project is kept on schedule.

Whether you need NMQA to place a Test Manager to look after test delivery, or to develop the role of Test Management within your organisation, NMQA are ready to help.
